While some green websites might be shutting down or restructuring amidst the economic downturn, the Sierra Club is taking this opportunity to jump into the mix with a new site focused on home efficiency.

With all the air pollution outside, we like to think that our homes are safe and contain clean, fresh air.  Since we view our homes as our havens, the last thing we want to think about is that the air in our homes might be causing us to be sick.  This could, in fact, be just what makes us ill. 

Whoah. What just happened? Does the end of this year at all resemble what we thought we knew twelve months ago?
As I reflect on 2008, it seems as though the world as we knew it redefined itself. As the stock market fell, heroes like Michael Phelps and Dara Torres inspired us, as new players like Sarah Palin, Rachel Maddox, and Rick Warren emerged on the scenes. And while headlines told us about toxicity in our financial system, our food supply and our politicians, comedians kept us laughing when we otherwise might have cried.

Go Green Expo, the brainchild of Bradford Rand and his team at Expo International, was conceived after a viewing of the film "An Inconvenient Truth." It prompted the question, "How can we make a difference?" This question resonated with Rand and his team and Go Green Expo was born. Rand, a producer of over 700 trade shows and job fairs over the last 14 years knew he could step up to this important challenge.

A truly unique event from the ground up, Go Green Expo will change not only the public's perception of environmentalism but also how events like this are produced and managed. Inviting companies large and small to showcase what they are doing to reduce their respective carbon footprint, consumers will have hands on experiences with "eco-friendly" alternatives to current everyday products and services.

Even the event itself is environmentally friendly utilizing a ZERO Carbon footprint approach to event production. Biodegradable trash bags, eco-friendly printing, table coverings, recycled signs, compostable sponsor banners and more. Event waste will be separated and sorted to ensure the least amount of refuse going to the landfills. Staff travel and a portion of every ticket that is purchased will be carbon offset.

The inaugural Go Green Expo took place in New York City in April of 2008 with 250+ exhibits, 50+ speakers, and eco-film festival & nearly 10,000 participating.

Go Green Expo invites both consumers & business owners to learn more about what is readily available so they can take steps to purchase earth friendly products & services to make our communities greener, one city at a time.
