Environmental technology has found that different societies around the world have different environmental concerns and problems. Not every group of people around the world have the same way of life, which equates to differing impacts on the environment. Environmental technology is working to help each individual society focus on their individual needs and have a sustainable lifestyle for their people.
Some societies have less of an impact on the environment than others. For instance, a small group of people living in the rainforest, who live primarily off the land, with only small farm fields and a trade system in place and use no electricity or transportation other than bicycles and their legs is going to have far less of an impact on the environment than a large group of people living in a large city. The group in the city uses electricity for everything and their sewage system is clogged up with human waste, the city dump is overflowing and the air surrounding their city is stagnant and filled with pollution because of all the motorized traffic in the area.
The group living in the rainforest could benefit from a more sustainable form of farming and could profit by learning to grow crops they’ve never grown before. Environmental technology could have a huge effect on the quality of this group’s lives by teaching them to generate solar power and improve their farming techniques. They could develop better trade techniques without doing much harm to the environment and learn to protect their environment in the mean time. The group in the rainforest probably already has a strong respect for the environment to begin with, so they wouldn’t need environmental technology to help them develop new ideas about the environment, but environmental technology could help them to put ideas in place to protect their land off which they live.
Environmental technology would have a much greater impact on the society in the city, as the group in the urban area is less likely to have a strong respect for the environment, since they don’t directly live off the land in the way the smaller society does. Environmental technology can teach the society in the city new ways to keep their water clean. It can do studies that will help to teach the people in the city to use less traditional power sources and begin working with solar panels in the window of their skyscrapers. Environmental science can teach people in cities to use the roofs of their buildings to grow their own food with sustainable gardening practices. It can also help to develop alternative fuels for all the motorized vehicles the people in the city need for transportation and import/export of goods.
Environmental technology is going to have a profound affect on the way all different societies view the environment and how we care for our planet now and forever. With the advances that environmental technology will offer, we will be able to maintain the quality of life most of us now enjoy, and even make it better. Every society will live cleaner, less polluting lives and every person will know how to do their part to keep the environment clean.
