AIDS In 2007 HIV/AIDS had killed 1.6 million people in Africa. Approximately 550,000 people where killed by Tuberculosis (TB) and mostly children about 1 million of them die from Malaria each year. This Global Pandemic unfortunately has the greatest affect on the poorest of the poor, and Africa by far the hardest hit. Did you know that more people in Africa every single month die from AIDS and Malaria alone then the amount of people that were killed in the 2004 Asia-Pacific Tsunami? This is huge and it can be un-treated. Check this out, an even more startling revaluation. Today as I write this there are 11.4 million AIDS Orphans in Africa and this number is not getting smaller. You see parents of these children have ether scum to there AIDS illness or have had to abandon them to find there own way. Can you imagine living in USA and having AIDS and having no help. In America we have Government programs, no matter how good or bad , we have them. In Africa there is no such thing.

As a human impact it’s undeniable, but that the same time the economic impact is just as severe and measurable. It is estimated that the annual GDP growth rate in countries such as Africa with very high incidences of HIV/AIDS can be as high as 2-4% now this number is lower in those countries that have absence of the disease. Get this, Malaria is completely treatable and we have the power to save millions of lives but in Africa this one disease cost Africa $12 billion in lost economic growth each year. This does not need to be. No one is saying that it’s our fault, but it will be our hands with blood if we don’t help in someway.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel, like I said before, all these diseases are preventable and treatable using a proven, very cost-effective strategy. Global resources are now devoted to fighting the three diseases, AIDS-Tuberculosis-Malaria. The fight has rapidly been scaled up over the last couple years and because of that very impressive results are being seen. This is what I call a crazy cool fact, as of December 2003 there were a mere 50,000 Africans that were receiving the miracle Anti-AIDS treatment but today , this is Great , there are over 1.3 million HIV+ people who are now receiving the treatment. Even with this Great success, global funding is still down, and really not sufficient enough to get ahead of the epidemic. World leaders in 2005 committed to help provide a universal AIDS prevention, care and treatment. This is a great ambitious goal and still today there is no plan in place.

AIDS, TB and malaria can be defeated, but only with a determined commitment from African and donor nations to ensure that all Africans have access to prevention, care and treatment. Live Earth Campaign ask that you find an organization that you can use as a stepping stone to start your own fight. Donate to a cause and a cure and be thankful that you don’t have to personally face an outrages struggle.
